Who we are

CALVARY CHAPEL SOMERSET WEST is a non-denominational Christian Fellowship. We are believers from all walks of life who have come together with the common vision of growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. An emphasis is given to challenging lives to change through studying the Word of God, worshiping God in Spirit and truth, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with one another and others. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are an independent Church but is affiliated with the Calvary Chapel family of churches.

We’d love to have you join us for our Main Service on Sunday mornings and our mid-week DEEPER LIFE studies on Wednesday evenings. We have no dress code and you are welcome to join us just as you are. Our Church services are focused on God through a heartfelt expression of worship and Biblical teaching, and our desire is to personally minister to you and your family. At CALVARY KIDS, your child will have a great time while worshiping God and learning the truth of His Word effectively at an age-appropriate level. Our prayer is that this will allow you the time to personally focus on Jesus and His Word with an open heart, and without any distraction.

‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.
– Zechariah 4:6
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
– Matthew 6:33

We believe that the Church exists primarily for three reasons: Firstly, we exist for God's pleasure (Revelation 4:11) Secondly, we exist to equip and edify the Saints (Ephesians 4:12) Thirdly, we exist to share and declare God's plan of salvation to the world (Matthew 28:18-20)

Distinctives are what makes us distinctly Calvary Chapel. If we were exactly like the church across the street, it would be better to simply merge together. Although there are churches who share many of our beliefs and practices, God has done a wonderful work of balance in the Calvary Chapel movement that does make us different in many areas

Preeminence and Centrality of Jesus Christ

The Church belongs to Jesus. He is the Head of the body and we are not making our own plans, but following His leading. Church is all about Jesus and we don't want anything to distract us from worshiping Him.
(Col 1:18)(2 Cor 4:5)

Priority of Teaching the Word of God

We are a Bible teaching ministry, teaching the whole Bible book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.
(1 Tim 4:13)(Heb 4:12)

Empowering & Ministry of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the baptism (empowering) of the Holy Spirit is essential for ministry and that the gifts of the Spirit should be practiced according to the Biblical guidelines.
(Acts 1:8)(1 Cor 12:7)

Beauty of Simplicity and Balance in Ministry

We believe in keeping it simple. Although we have strong convictions, we don’t divide over non-essentials.
(2 Cor 1:12)(2 Tim 2:15)

Supremacy of Love

We believe that without Love we can do nothing. We need to love God and His people. We need to disagree agreeably.
(John 13:35)(1 Tim 1:5)

Teaching and Practicing of God's Great Grace

We believe in the daily Grace of God. We are saved by His grace and we stand in it. We also need to give it to others.
(Heb 13:9)(John 1:16)

God's Model for the Church and Ministry

We look to the book of Acts as the model for the church. Continuing steadfastly in the apostle’s doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in prayers.
(Acts 2:42)(Matt 16:18)
